Jammu and Kashmir's former chief minister and National Congress leader Omar Abdullah, on Tuesday, said his party has written a letter to the state Governor N.N. Vohra, pledging support to Mufti-led People's Democratic Party (PDP).

"@JKNC_ (National Conference) has written to Gov. Vohra sahib reiterating our offer of support to @jkpdp (PDP) & asking him to call us before deciding assembly viability," Omar Abdullah tweeted.

On Monday, NC ruled out coalition with BJP to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We are not going to join hands with the BJP at any cost,” senior NC leader Mohammad Akbar Lone told reporters on Monday in Srinagar after the party’s core group meeting.

He had said the NC was ready to join hands with the PDP if the regional party talks about the welfare of the people of the State.

“If the PDP talks about regional aspirations, then as a regional party, as a primary party, we need to join hands with such people who work for the unity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and we are ready to help them,” Mr. Lone had said.

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections threw a hung verdict and the PDP emerging as the largest party with 28 seats. National Conference and BJP won 15 and 25 seats respectively.

A party or coalition needs support of at least 44 MLAs to form government in the 87-seat Assembly.
