Jharkhand Governor M. O. H. Farooq sought the opinion of the BJP and the Congress on Monday after Chief Minister Shibu Soren, whose government was reduced to a minority, resigned last night.

BJP leader Raghuvar Das, who was the deputy chief minister in the Soren government, met the Governor after being summoned.

Mr. Das told reporters after the meeting “the Governor called me and I will speak to the media at 1:00 pm.”

Party sources said that the Governor asked Mr. Das about the prospects of government formation and had sought an hour’s time.

Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Prasad Singh, belonging to the Congress, will meet the Governor at 12.30 pm.
