A 20-year-old Japanese tourist was allegedly raped by a young man in the outskirts of Jaipur on Sunday night. She claimed she was drugged before being sexually assaulted.

The accused, in his early 20s, also robbed her of her iPhone and cash. A manhunt has been launched to trace the culprit.

The young woman had gone out for a stroll near historic Jal Mahal, where she was approached by the accused posing as a tourist guide. He first took her around the city on his motorcycle and then reported took her towards Mojamabad village on Jaipur-Amber Road, where he reportedly offered her cold drink laced with drugs.

In a complaint lodged with the police, the victim told the police that when she screamed for help on regaining consciousness, the accused escaped from the spot. Finding herself in an isolated place, the victim sought help from a motorist on the highway. The motorist, who happened to be a lawyer, took the victim to Dudu police station where a case was registered.

The Inspector-General of Police (Jaipur), D.C. Jain, told reporters that the police would soon release the sketch of the accused. He said all CCTV cameras along the route were being scanned to identify and trace the accused.

The Japanese tourist told the police that she had befriended the accused because her English was not very good and he spoke good English, which she thought, would help her during her stay in Jaipur. However, she could not remember the name of the accused or the registration number of the motorcycle on which she was taken around the city.

Later in the day, the police found a motorcycle abandoned on the Jaipur-Amber road. Efforts were on to ascertain whether the same vehicle belonged to the accused.
