In a shocking incident, a 25 year-old Japanese lady tourist was gang-raped by five unidentified men in Bihar’s Gaya district late on Friday evening.
According to police sources in Gaya, the incident took place after 8 p.m. on Friday, when the lady, a resident of Tokyo, hired an auto-rickshaw from the Buddhist circuit in Bodh Gaya in order to reach Gaya railway station.
However, the auto-driver, along with four other persons, allegedly raped the tourist at a lonely spot between Bodh Gaya and Gaya.
Gaya SP Mr. Sushil Khopde said that the driver had deliberately taken another route to reach the station in order to avoid the normal cantonment route.
The victim, who was then dropped at Gaya railway station around midnight, informed the police about the horrific incident.
Bihar DGP Mr. Neelmani said that the police had so far detained two persons.
The auto-driver, however, has been on the run since the incident.
“We have directed the Gaya police to submit a chargesheet within the next 24 hours and conduct a speedy trial within a week. A forensic team from Patna has also been dispatched to Gaya,” informed Mr. Neelmani.
Meanwhile, a rape case has been lodged against five persons at Amawa police station in Bodh Gaya.
“We have asked Gaya police to arrest the culprits and file charge-sheet within a week and police will press for speedy trial,” the DGP said.
The victim has undergone a medical test and is being kept at a Gaya guesthouse where she had been residing since her arrival from Japan.
