‘Not against projecting Nitish as CM candidate’

Amid the Janata Parivar merger stalemate, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday declared that the merger, alliance or adjustment between the RJD and JD(U) was not a big issue. He also clarified he was not opposed to the projection of Nitish Kumar as Chief Ministerial candidate ahead of the State Assembly elections as such issues were not even raised by anyone in meetings.

“Merger, alliance or adjustment whatever it will be… we’ll decide it soon and its not a big issue…the only thing is that our soul should come clean,” said Mr. Prasad said on his arrival from Delhi on Wednesday.

He also asserted that the main issue was to fight the BJP in the coming Assembly poll and for this “all secular forces should come together on a common platform.”

Asked how soon the merger or adjustment talks will be finalised, Mr. Prasad said “there are complications with every other parties and all should be addressed… it’s not an easy task but when we’ll sit together it can be resolved in no time.”

Not in the race for CM

The RJD chef also rubbished reports that merger talks were stuck as he was opposed to the projection of Mr. Kumar as the Chief Ministerial face before the Assembly poll. “It’s all rubbish and frivolous talks…such rumours were spread by the BJP and the RSS to foil our united front,” he said.

Mr. Prasad said that neither he nor JD(U) or anyone else ever put condition on Mr. Nitish Kumar as CM face before election.

“The issue was not even raised and neither did it come up for discussion at the meeting…it was reported wrong in the media.” Mr. Prasad said he was in any case not in the race for Chief Minister “due to some court reasons.”

“The delay in merger or adjustment is because there are a lot of issues to be addressed before it... but since I’m here we’ll sort them out soon”, he said while talking to journalists here.
