Jammu to host literary festival on 150th anniversary of Tagore

Celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, a two-day literary festival in tribal and regional languages of Jammu and Kashmir will begin in Jammu from Thursday.

“We are organising a two-day literary festival in tribal and regional languages of Jammu and Kashmir under the theme of ’Remembering Tagore’ in Jammu from Thursday to celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore,” Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) Secretary Dr Javaid Rahi told reporters in Jammu on Wednesday.

This maiden event will be held to disseminate the message and philosophy of Tagore in local languages of the State, he said.

Dr Rahi said that around one hundred writers, poets, intellectuals representing seven major tribal and regional languages of the State are taking part in this composite literary extravaganza supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

He said among the tribal languages of the State Gojri, Ladakhi and Balti have been chosen, while in Regional Languages Kashmiri, Dogri Punjabi and Pahari have been selected where in Tagore will be discussed as a writer, philosopher, poet, composer, painter, essayist, philosopher, educationist and social reformer.
