Eighteen polytechnic and 11 degree colleges will be set up in Jammu and Kashmir, State Education Minister Abdul Gani Malik said on Tuesday.

“The Centre has agreed to establish 18 polytechnic colleges in the districts which are not covered by polytechnics at present. Besides, 11 degree colleges are expected to be established in the State,” Mr. Malik told the Assembly, replying to a question by Mehbooba Mufti and other Opposition leaders.

Mr. Malik said these colleges would be set up in far flung areas after a detailed survey.

There was no proposal of the State government to open new degree colleges, except those sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development for backward areas for which the locations were yet to be identified, he said.
