A special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Monday extended the police custody of journalist Jigna Vora, and another accused Paulson Joseph — arrested in connection with the murder of MiD-Day journalist J Dey — till December 9.
Opposes bail
The prosecution opposed bail for Ms. Vora on the ground of emergence of fresh evidence.
Special Public Prosecutor Dilip Shah said a friend of Ms. Vora surrendered a mobile phone belonging to her. Furthermore, the police had to trace her original mobile phone. This phone was different from the three mobile phones and a memory card given to the police by one Murtuza Diwan. He claimed that they all belonged to Ms. Vora, who had given them to him for safekeeping.
The prosecution claimed that two witnesses had accused Mr. Paulson of destroying certain SIM cards. Hence, the custody of Ms. Vora and Mr. Paulson was sought for further interrogation.
