IT seizes Rs 4.58 cr unaccounted cash from West Bengal

The investigation department of Income Tax has seized Rs 4.58 crore unaccounted cash in the last three to four days as a result of the guidelines issued by the Election Commission to crackdown on unaccounted cash in the run up to the polls in the State.

Director general (IT investigation-east) T Rozara said that the Rs 4.58 crore of unaccounted cash had been already seized from the State.

He said that surveillance of cash movement would be further intensified in the coming days as the polls were coming near.

Mr. Rozara said that 89 IT officials including one director and two additional directors would be deployed to track cash movements.

The IT department had also activated its monitoring cells at Kolkata and Bagdogra airports.

He said large cash carried by persons would be checked and if required would be seized.

The department would also deploy two flying squads in the city, he said.
