Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has accused the BJP government of not taking “timely action” with regard to the unprecedented traffic jam in Gurgaon earlier this week.
“The responsibility for the traffic jam rests with the local administration and the Haryana government. It never happened during our regime. The Badshahpur drain, which is important for drainage of water in Gurgaon, has not been de-silted since two years. The flooding at the Hero Honda Chowk was caused due to overflowing of this drain,” said Mr. Hooda.
He also accused the BJP government of going slow on the construction of the flyover at the Hero Honda Chowk and other infrastructure projects in Gurgaon.
“The construction of the flyover at the Chowk started during our regime. It has been two years and the work is still going on. Also, the delay in the construction of the Dwarka Expressway has added to the frequent traffic jams on the National Highway-8. When ready, almost 40 per cent of the traffic on NH-8 would shift to the Dwarka Expressway. Almost 90 per cent of work was complete before the BJP government took over in the State, but it has not moved an inch since then.”
The former Chief Minister said that many other projects aimed at increasing road connectivity between Delhi and Gurgaon were moving at a slow pace.
