“It is status quo. There is no big gain or loss for any party though there is some improvement for the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS),” NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said here on Friday, reacting to the results of the high-power municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra.
Public criticism by the Congress of the tie-up with the NCP and the process of selection of candidates may have had some adverse effect, Mr. Pawar said, adding that unable to present a joint front could have impacted results.
The NCP leader, who closely followed the election results on television at his office in Krishi Bhavan, said his party had done well in zilla parishads (district councils).
It will take two to three days for him to assess the results in detail, he added.
The Congress and the NCP had tied up for the civic elections in the State but contested against each other in the zilla parishad polls.
