Hurriyat (M) leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq in an interview to The Hindu on Thursday ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir expressed concerns over the situation in the Middle-East. Mr. Farooq said he was concerned by developments in Iraq and the call from the ISIS to build an “Islamic Caliphate” from Syria to Kashmir.

“The rise of the ISIS, this new breed of radicals is a cause of concern. In Kashmir we don't want to be a ground for any movement that would have a different agenda from ours,” he said, also expressing worries about an influx of funding from Saudi Arabia for radicalised education in Jammu and Kashmir.
