The demand of the Opposition parties to appoint a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the irrigation scam rocked the Maharashtra Assembly for the fifth consecutive day on Friday.
The lower House was adjourned till December 17 even as Opposition members trooped into the well of the House pressing their demand.
Earlier the House was adjourned for 10 minutes during the question hour when members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena raised slogans against the government.
Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil requested Opposition members to help him in carrying out the proceedings of the House smoothly, but they continued with the sloganeering. In the pandemonium, the adjournment motion of the Opposition on the irrigation issue was rejected by the Speaker. The Speaker soon adjourned the House for the day.
The upper House witnessed some discussion on the issue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s memorial at the Indu Mill premises, Mumbai.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavhan assured members that sufficient funding would be provided for the construction of the memorial.
After the question hour, Opposition members started sloganeering demanding a SIT probe into the irrigation scam. Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh adjourned the House for the day.
