IRB cop held on dowry charges

The Mahila police of Cuttack city have arrested and forwarded to court an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) havildar Santosh Tripathy on charges of subjecting his wife to cruelty and harassment after demanding dowry from her parents.

The havildar’s wife is also working in the police department as a wireless constable.

According to the police, based on the compliant of the victim and after verifications of the allegations, the accused was arrested. “We have booked the accused under section 498-A (cruelty to wife), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 of IPC and section 4 of the Dowry Prevention Act,” said Mahila police station inspector Sujata Jena.
