Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi’s invitations to the heads of the SAARC countries, particularly Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, to the May 26 swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi evoked a positive response from mainstream political parties in Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday.

Chief Minister and Nationhal Conference leader Omar Abdullah, hoped that the BJP leadership’s move would be the “beginning of sustained talks.”

“Excellent move by @narendramodi to invite SAARC leaders, especially Pak PM for his swearing in. Hope this is beginning of sustained talks,” Mr. Abdullah tweeted, adding: “At the same time I can't help wonder what BJP would have said if as Prime Minister-designate Rahul Gandhi had done the same thing.”
