Showing the way to car owners to not only protect their vehicles from theft but also help in apprehension of thieves, a resident of Gurgaon, who used to place a cheap mobile phone in silent mode in his expensive car, helped the district police track down and nab the man who had driven off with his vehicle within hours of the theft.

The police said the resident of Sector 46, Gurgaon had purchased a Honda Mobilio about six months ago and as a matter of routine he used to hide the Rs. 900 phone in silent mode in his car. To keep the phone in working order, the man used to charge it every third day.

When on Friday morning the resident found that his car had been stolen, he immediately called the Gurgaon Sadar police and informed them about the incident as also the phone which he had placed in the vehicle. By tracking the phone number, the police were quickly able to trace the car and nabbed the thief, Prakash, a resident of Jaipur, from near the 32nd milestone on National Highway 8.
