Over 600 trucks, loaded mostly with consumer items, have been stranded in the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway due to a breach in the Makru bridge and multiple landslips in Tamenglong district. The trucks were transporting the goods to Imphal.
Official reports said labourers of the Border Roads Task Force were clearing the debris while officials were trying to get the bridge repaired. Taking advantage of the suspension of the transportation of consumer goods, traders have hiked the prices of all commodities in and around Imphal.
M.Oken, Consumer Affair, Food and Public Distribution Minister, says there is enough stock of PDS items. Announcing the price hike as unjustified, he has ordered for rice to be distributed at 10 public places at the rate of Rs. 9 per kg. A person can buy up to 15 kg. The sale will continue for 10 days.
