Police have solved the December 15 bomb blast case in which two Bihari traders were killed in Imphal. Though no insurgent group had claimed responsibility for the blast, police arrested an insurgent of United Revolutionary Front, Sanjoy Khangemban the next day.

Police said that the arrested insurgent had planted the bomb at the godown where betel leaf was stored despite ban from some underground outfits. One Glock-26, 9 mm pistol, with 5 rounds of ammunition was recovered which he stashed in a rented room in Imphal.

A combined team of police and personnel of 25 Assam Rifles had a brief encounter with some insurgents of the URF on Thursday at Kaliajang village in Senapati district. Though the insurgents had escaped, another militant identified as Badal Kamei was nabbed. Some incriminating items were seized from him.

A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab other absconding insurgents. The government had given compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the family members of the two slain traders.

Meanwhile in a separate incident commandos of the shock troops in Thoubal district arrested Malemnganba Sagolshem, said to be a cadre of the United National Liberation Front on Thursday.
