Congress has asked Jammu and Kashmir PWD Minister G.M. Saroori to step down in the wake of the controversy surrounding his daughter, who is accused of using a girl to impersonate her during a medical entrance exam.

?The party minister has been asked to resign?, Congress General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan told PTI.

It was alleged that two youth, including a girl, were appearing in the examination for the kin of two politicians - Mr. Saroori and former Minister Mr. Ram Pal of the National Conference, Congress? coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir.

Seven alleged impersonators, including a girl, were apprehended in this connection on August 21.

Vehemently denying any wrongdoing by his daughter, Mr. Saroori had dubbed it a ?misinformation campaign? by vested interests to tarnish his image.

He claimed his daughter was pursuing her bachelor?s degree in the Government Women?s College here, a fact which was being verified by the police.
