Security in and around the Indian Military Academy (IMA) here has been stepped up further following reports that some terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, might try to create confusion, Inspector-General of Police (Garhwal Range) M.A. Ganapati told The Hindu on Thursday.
The premier military training institution has been under the scanner for quite some time now with police and intelligence officials combing the area regularly.
The Centre on Wednesday had warned Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra against terror strikes, particularly on military institutions, following inputs received from the FBI about the recently arrested American terror suspect David Headley’s visits to India.
Extra security has also been provided at Doon School and Woodstock in Mussoorie following reports that terror groups might try to target major schools in North India.
“There is no need to panic. We are keeping a close watch on the situation besides intensive checking on all roads and verifying antecedents of tenants and guests at hotels and dharamshalas,” said Mr. Ganapati.
