The Jharkhand government on Friday set up a special investigation team (SIT) headed by retired IAS officer Debasish Gupta to probe illegal transfer of government and tribal land in the state.

The SIT would find out officials and others responsible in illegally transferring land covered under Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act and Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act that protects tribal land, an official release said here.

The SIT would recommend necessary legal and administrative actions against the guilty and make recommendations to stop such illegal transfers, the release said.

Besides the Chairman, Debasish Gupta, a retired district and session judge and a retired or incumbent joint secretary level officer would be member secretary of the SIT, it said.
