I'll look into turban issue: Obama

November 09, 2010 02:20 am | Updated 02:20 am IST - CHANDIGARH:

President Barack Obama has assured Sikhs that he would visit their holiest shrine, the Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) at Amritsar, whenever he came to India next time. He has also promised them that he would take a “close look” at the issue of disrespect shown to the Sikh religious symbols like turbans during security checks at U.S. airports.

A Shiromani Akali Dal release said the assurances came from Mr. Obama when he met the party MP from Bathinda, Harsimrat Kaur, at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Sunday evening. Mr. Obama clarified that his scheduled visit to Amritsar was cancelled because of “time constraint.”
