An Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted in a pressure cooker, was today detected by the army troops, who later defused it safely.

During sanitisation of the Jammu-Poonch highway, a Road Opening Party of the army detected the IED at Bata Triya (Mendhar), about 210-kms from Jammu, police officials said.

The traffic was closed on the highway for over half an hour and the IED was defused safely, they said, adding the traffic was later resumed.

In a separate incident, three militant sympathisers were arrested by the security forces from Kishtwar district, a defence spokesman said here today.

Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint column of Rastriya Rifles troops and police raided a hideout in remote Tander nallah forest belt of Kishtwar district and arrested three militant sympathisers on Tuesday night.

The arrested have been identified as Mohmmad Noorani, Bhakta Genoo and Mohmmad Rafiquee, he said, adding that they were providing logistic support to militants in the mountainous districts.

So far 47 militant sympathiser have been arrested in the twin districts till now this year.
