The Indian Council of Medical Research has honoured a doctor from Orissa for his bio-medical research work on vector-borne disease and control of malaria in under-developed areas.
Manoj Das, presently working as the officer-in-charge of the National Institute of Malaria Research’s field unit at Ranchi, received the prestigious award from Union health minister Gulam Nabi Azad at a function in New Delhi recently.
As a bio-medical scientist, Dr. Das worked in remote tribal areas of Car Nicobar Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where malaria is endemic to local Nicobarese tribes, for about 16 years.
He had executed bio-environmental malaria control in the Car Nicobar Island and brought down cases of malaria to a very low level without use of insecticide.
