IAF airlifts 342 stranded commuters

The Air Force on Wednesday airlifted 342 Kargil-bound stranded passengers from Jammu and Srinagar to Leh in the Ladakh region, a defence official said.

In the first sortie, 200 civilians, including 12 children and 82 women, were flown to Leh, Officiating PRO (Defence) S.N. Acharya said.

Another 142 stranded passengers were airlifted from the Srinagar airfield in the second trip. The State government had said special IAF sorties would be arranged for the passengers of Leh region, which was cut off due to heavy snowfall.
