Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said on Wednesday that he welcomed any inquiry into the Adarsh land scam, including one by the CBI.
He was interacting with reporters at the State Secretariat here.
The CBI is probing how the defence land was transferred to the Adarsh Housing Society. Mr. Chavan has not yet been approached by it and he maintains that the land belongs to the Maharashtra government.
Mr. Chavan said he stated in Delhi that an inquiry was welcome. There was no need for the State government to give its nod for a probe. “It's good that they have suo motu initiated the inquiry.”
Gadkari's remarks
He refused to respond to Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari's remarks that Maharashtra's Congress leaders had sullied the State's name.
To a question on the State's action against right-wing elements involved in terror attacks in the light of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's criticism of the sangh parivar, he said secularism had to be guarded at all cost.
Obama visit
As usual, the Chief Minister will celebrate Diwali in his hometown Nanded. However, he will return to the city on Saturday, the day U.S. President Barack Obama is slated to arrive here.
Mr. Chavan said he was himself in the dark about whether he would be receiving or meeting Mr. Obama. “The decision will be taken by the Ministry of External Affairs.”
