An officer with the Income Tax Department was killed and three other people were injured when their car crashed into a stationary trailer truck on Thursday morning near Talegaon, 30 km from here.
The police said the deceased I-T inspector, Abhiskek Tyagi (25), and his colleagues Deputy Director (I-T Investigation) Anand Upadhyay and I-T officer K.K. Mishra were returning to Pune after a raid in Talegaon. Around 6 a.m., their SUV crashed at a high speed into the back of a stationary truck carrying iron rods, near Amarjai Temple along Pune-Mumbai highway.
Tyagi, who was in the front seat, was killed on the spot. His colleagues and the driver were rushed to Ruby Hall Clinic in Hinjewadi. The front of the SUV was completely damaged.
Mr. Upadhyay (38) sustained a nasal fracture and a head injury. Mr. Mishra (33), too, suffered a head injury. Sources said both officers were out of danger.
“We are taking action against the truck driver for parking the vehicle in such a hazardous manner,” said Ganpat Madgulkar, sub-divisional police officer, Dehu Road Police Station.
