Expressing his willingness to contest the Lok Sabha polls from West Bengal on the BJP ticket, noted music director Bappi Lahiri said here on Thursday it was for the party to select the seat.

There are indications from the party leadership that he is likely to be fielded from either Jadavpur in the southern fringes of the city or Sreerampore in Hooghly district.

The BJP has announced its candidates for 40 out of 42 seats in the State. Senior BJP leaders said Mr. Lahiri was likely to get a ticket from either of these two seats.

“Bengal is my native place. I have spent my childhood in Bengal. I visited Mumbai at the age of 18 but I love Bengal and its people,” the musician, who recently joined the BJP, said.

Mr. Lahiri said the country was eagerly waiting for a change that would be ushered in by the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi. “I am going to campaign for Mr. Modi in Varanasi,” he said.
