The moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference on Monday demanded resumption of composite dialogue between India and Pakistan and said third party mediation was required to resolve the Kashmir issue.
“The tension and confrontation between India and Pakistan is increasing with each passing day and in such a scenario, we feel a third country or party should play the role of a mediator to resolve the long-standing Kashmir issue,” Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, told a delegation of European Union here.
The delegation comprised diplomats Lisa Valjenta from Finland, Aslak Brun (Norway), Danny Anan (Denmark) and Andres Sjoberg (Sweden), a Hurriyat spokesman told PTI.
The Mirwaiz said Hurriyat has suggested a four-point proposal including release of political prisoners, revocation of black laws, phased demilitarisation and end to human rights violations for making the ground situation conducive for resolution of Kashmir issue.
Referring to separatist leaders lodged in jails, he said despite court orders, senior hurriyat leader Shabir Ahmad Shah was not released.
The spokesman said Mirwaiz told the delegation about the disappearance of youths from the State over the past two decades.
