Huge quantity of explosives seized near Guwahati

A huge quantity of explosives was seized and five persons apprehended in the outskirts of the city along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Monday, officials said here.

Acting on a tip-off, CRPF’s 175 Battalion intercepted a vehicle coming from Meghalaya at Basistha area and seized the explosives, which police suspect were to have been supplied to militant outfits ULFA and NDFB active in the state.

The explosives include 103 gelatine sticks, 300 non-electronic detonators, 200 electronic detonators, 50 kg ammonium nitrate, 300 metres of wire and three bundles of iron nails, they said.

The vehicle was seized and the arrested persons have been identified, they added.
