The Mohali police on Thursday recovered Rs. one crore in cash and 1.5 kg of jewellery from the Sector 48 house where Anuradha Bal alias Fiza Mohammed — the estranged wife of the former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan — was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday.
The police searched the premises after forensic teams scoured for clues. Though a case has not been registered yet, at least 15 persons have been questioned under Section 174 of the Cr.PC.
The police have been questioning Fiza’s uncle Satpal, who was the first to inform the police of the death saying a foul smell was emanating from the house. Leads and information provided by the neighbours and others are being probed. Two cars, a Hyundai Santro and a Honda CRV, parked inside the house were searched.
The police also found liquor bottles, cigarettes and used sachets of mouth fresheners.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of CCTV video footage flashed on a television channel in which Fiza is seen with an advocate in a city hotel. She is seen in the same clothes in which her body was found and holding the same packets recovered from her house. Mohali police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said it was still too early to pinpoint the cause of Fiza’s death.
The police say no struggle took place before she died. Even the preliminary autopsy did not reveal any external or internal injuries.
However, the police did not rule out foul play.
