November 01, 2010 01:23 pm | Updated 01:23 pm IST - Mumbai

Leaders of key Opposition parties in Maharashtra today met Governor K Sankaranarayanan here, seeking dismissal of the Ashok Chavan government over the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam.

The delegation included Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena leaders and was led by Opposition Leader in State Assembly Eknath Khadse.

“We demanded immediate sacking of the Chavan ministry and pointed out to the Governor that the image of the State government and that of the State has taken a beating due to the blatant corruption of those involved in the scam,” senior Sena leader Diwakar Raote said.

Those who met the Governor included BJP leader Vinod Tawde and Sena leaders Subhash Desai and Deepak Sawant.

The delegation asked the Governor to initiate criminal proceedings against ministers and bureaucrats whose names figure in the scam.

A controversy has erupted over how Adarsh Housing Society, originally meant to be a six-storey structure to house Kargil war heroes and widows, got converted into a 31-storey tower through collusion of bureaucrats, politicians and top defence officers.
