At least 20 people were injured, some of them critically, in clashes between two groups at a tea estate in Kailashahar in north Tripura on Thursday afternoon. The incident was a fall-out of a brawl over playing with colour on the occasion of Holi.

Police said the clash occurred between two groups of workers armed with sharp cutting weapons and iron rods at Ravan Tilla in Manu Valley Tea Estate at around 4 p.m. “We have information that 20 persons, including four women, sustained injuries,” Buddha Debbarma, Duty Officer of Kailashahar police station, said over phone.

He said some elements tried to settle an old enmity taking advantage of the Holi festival. “Senior police officers have visited the spot,” Mr. Debbarma said, adding that details about the incident were awaited.

The injured were admitted to the Unakoti district government hospital at Kailashahar. Police said security personnel were deployed in the tea estate in view of the tension.
