PTI Salman Khan leaves after appearing in a court following the hit and run case in Mumbai on Wednesday.

A Mumbai court on Wednesday framed charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against actor Salman Khan in an 11-year-old hit-and-run case. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Apart from Section 304(2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), he was also charged under Sections 279 (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by an act), 338 (causing grievous hurt), 427 (causing damage or mischief to property) of IPC, and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and Bombay Prohibition Act.

The actor pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

At the beginning of court proceedings, Justice UB Hejib expressed his inability to frame charges as he has been transferred.

Prosecution counsel pleaded that the charges be framed on Wednesday itself as the actor was going abroad for two months and that could result in delay of trial. Following this, Justice Hejib read out the charges to Mr. Khan.

One person was killed and four were injured on September 28, 2002, when a Land Cruiser, allegedly driven by Mr. Khan, ran into a group of people sleeping on the pavement.

The matter will be heard on August 19.

How can you please not guilty to the charges when a human being has been killed and four injured? Why not plead guilty and ask for a lesser punishment in exchange for, say, so many hours of social service and other things?

I do not understand why there is need of mentioning the actor's attire. My humble request to news writersplease do not deviate from the topic.

Guilty is guilty and not salman khan or sanjay dutt. So if he found guilty...he ought to be punished.
