High alert as two killed in Bodoland

November 11, 2012 12:49 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:13 pm IST - Guwahati:

The Assam government on Saturday sounded high alert in the entire Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) area — that comes under the control of the Bodoland Territorial Council — following fresh violence in which two persons were killed.

In the first incident, at Bazugaon near Sapkata, three miscreants attacked a farmer with country-made weapons even as he was ploughing his paddy field. He died on the spot, while another farmer escaped.

The victim was identified as Ainal Haque (35), son of Yusuf Ali of No. 2 Bazugaon village.

Home Secretary G.D. Tripathi told The Hindu that the culprits had been identified and the police were after them. Prima facie, it appeared to be an incident of land grabbing.

In the second incident at Betlangmari, which falls under the Kokrajhar police station, Robin Boro, a businessman hailing from Anthaibari, a Bodo dominated village, was waylaid and hacked to death.

The three districts of Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Chirang, which witnessed violent clashes between Bodos and Muslims in July, still have 39,459 displaced persons taking shelter in 97 relief camps.
