Heroin worth Rs 90 crore seized

The BSF on Friday seized 18 kg of contraband suspected to be heroin, which was smuggled from Pakistan, along the International Border in Ferozepur sector of Punjab.

The value of seized drug is Rs 90 crore in the international market, a BSF spokesman said.

At about 5 am on Friday, suspicious movement of Pakistani miscreants was observed near International Border in Ferozepur Sector, Border Security Force DIG R. S. Kataria said.

18 kgs of contraband

A search operation near the Border Security fence was carried out by a BSF party and 18 packets (approximately 18 Kgs) of contraband suspected to be heroin was recovered in between International Border and Border Security Fence, he said.

Keeping in view the vulnerability of border due to harvesting season and heightened activities of smugglers, Anil Paliwal, Inspector General of BSF Punjab Frontier has issued operational guidelines to all the Sectors under Punjab Frontier for further strengthening the border domination so as to effectively check activities of anti-national elements . R. K. Thapa, BSF DIG of Ferozepur sector has directed field commanders to maintain extra vigil.

Liquor seized

Meanwhile, four persons, including a woman, were arrested and seized 200 pouches of illicit liquor from their possessions in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a man in the bus stand area in Udhampur and seized 136 pouches of country-made liquor from his possession, a police officer said.

In a separate incident, police in Reasi district have arrested a woman bootlegger Kamlesh Kour who was allegedly making liquor at her residence in the Jambri village of the district. - PTI
