Heavy rains cause flood-like situation in Madhya Pradesh

Heavy and incessant rains in most parts during the last 48 hours gave rise to a flood-like situation in Madhya Pradesh even as one person was killed in wall collapse in Bhopal, official sources said on Tuesday.

Most of the rivers in the state were overflowing leading to many villages being cut-off from others areas.

Rivers like Narmada, Betwa and Tawa were in spate, sources said.

The rains had severely affected telephone lines and communication between Vidisha and Ashoknagar, and Bhopal and Sagar remained cut-off, sources said.

Police said a man was killed and five others sustained injuries when the wall of their house collapsed in the Old City area of Bhopal Monday evening. Water gushed inside many houses in the low-lying areas of the city, sources said.

Incidentally, a fear of drought hovered over the state a fortnight back, which has now changed into a flood-like situation owing to heavy rainfall.

According to the Met department, there will be no respite from the heavy downpour in the next two days.
