Heatwave sweeps through Punjab, Haryana

Heatwave swept through Punjab and Haryana on Thursday, with the maximum temperature staying several notches above normal at many places.

Hisar in Haryana recorded the season's hottest day with 45.3°C.

Bhiwani registered a maximum of 42°C, seven degrees above normal, while the mercury shot up to 42°C at Karnal, up seven notches.

Chandigarh experienced the season's hottest day with 41°C, seven degrees above normal.

In Punjab, Patiala recorded 42.8°C, up eight degrees. The maximum at Amritsar was 42.4°C, nine degrees above normal.
