Heat wave persists in western Odisha

Sundargarh had 45 deg C, Talcher 44.6 C

Intense heat wave condition persisted in western Odisha on Sunday with Sundargarh sizzling at 45 degrees C while coastal parts received slight relief.

While Sundargarh became the hottest place in the State, the coal town of Talcher sizzled at 44.6 degrees C, the Meteorological centre said.

Titlagarh, also in the western region, recorded a maximum temperature of 44, followed by 43.2 at Bhawanipatna, 42.3 at Jharsuguda, 42.1 at Angul, 41 at Bolangir and 40.8 at Sonepur, it said.

A total of 12 places in the State recorded temperature above 40 degrees C out of which six stations registered temperature beyond 42 degrees C.

In Bhubaneswar the maximum temperature was 39.4, while Cuttack city recorded 37.5 degrees C.

A report from the Special Relief Commissioner’s office said the sunstroke toll was unchanged at 18 and the number of alleged deaths due to heat related incidents too remained at 181. - PTI
