The hearing on the Tata Motors Ltd petition challenging the validity of the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act 2011 was interrupted at the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday when counsel for the company took exception to alleged remarks made against him by counsel of the State government.
Even though Justice Soumitra Pal said the matter was also “embarrassing” for him, he turned down a plea by Advocate-General Anindya Mitra that the media was kept from reporting the day's proceedings.
At the beginning of the day's hearing, Tata Motors counsel Samaraditya Pal pointed out that Kalyan Bandopadhyay, counsel for the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, made a personal attack against him in a television channel on Monday.
“I am mentally disturbed” Mr. Pal told the court but added that he was not seeking an adjournment on the day's proceedings.
Justice Pal observed that the matter was also “embarrassing” for him and enquired about Mr. Bandopadhyay, who was not present during the day. The hearing will resume on Wednesday.
