Heads tonsured as punishment

February 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

In another case of alleged corporal punishment in a city school, two boys, brothers studying in class 9 and class 10 in a reputed school, have alleged that their heads were shaved by staff of the school hostel as punishment for not attending classes.

The children’s father, Sebastian Augustine, a construction worker from Dodda Begur, has now lodged a complaint with the Cubbon Park police against the school.

“We have taken up the complaint against the school and are examining it,” said Sandeep Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).

When contacted, the school’s rector said the heads of five boys were shaved with their consent for hygienic reason.

Only one boy resisted it and got only a part of his head shaved and ran away, he said.
