HC scanner on ‘No. 1 Haryana’ campaign

As Haryana goes into election mode, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s advertisement blitzkrieg unleashed in the electronic and print media in the last few weeks has come under the scanner of the Punjab and Haryana High court.

Local television channels are full of short films and jingles woven around the personality of Mr Hooda and his role in making Haryana No 1.

On the petition of a retired Army officer, Lt Col Nand Kishore, who alleged that public funds of more Rs. 100 crore have been released in the last three months to project the government, and the Chief Minister in particular, the court has issued notices to the State government for September 4. The petitioner stated that a budget of Rs. 113 crore was sanctioned for media campaign for 2013-14.
