The Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday rejected an anticipatory bail plea by Nationalist Congress Party MP Padamsinh Pail in a case registered by social activist Anna Hazare.

However, defence sought a stay on the High Court order as Mr. Patil was moving the Supreme Court, his lawyer Bhushan Mahadik told The Hindu over telephone.

Mr. Patil would continue to be on interim bail until the matter went to the Supreme Court.

On September 26, Mr. Hazare registered a complaint at the Parner police station in Ahmednagar district saying the MP had plotted to kill him and offered a supari (contract killing sum).

Earlier in June this year, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Mr. Patil for his alleged involvement in the case of murder Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar. A sessions court granted him bail on September 25.
