HC denies woman judge’s sexual harassment charge

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has denied the allegation of the woman judge of a lower court — who resigned over alleged sexual harassment by a senior judge — that the panel set up to probe her complaints included a judge who had transferred her as “punishment” for resisting the sexual advances.

In a rejoinder to newspaper reports in this regard, the High Court Registrar-General said Justice Ajit Singh, who was alleged to have transferred her, was not part of the transfer committee.

According to news reports, the woman judge, in a letter sent through her lawyer to the Chief Justice of the High Court, had said she would not participate in the inquiry until the panel was reconstituted.

She alleged that Justice Ajit Singh, who was the head of the inquiry panel, had transferred her to Sidhi from Gwalior as “punishment” for resisting the advances of another judge. She had sought the reconstitution of the panel to ensure a free and fair inquiry.

The Registrar-General, in his reply, said Justice Singh was not a member of the transfer committee.
