Haryana has set itself a target of expanding its drinking water supply network to about 50 per cent of rural households by 2017 from 30 per cent at present. Similarly, the State will seek to provide a targeted supply of 135 litres of water per capita daily in all 77 towns within the next five years from only 41 now.
Announcing the plan at the State-level Republic Day function in Kaithal, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the State government had drawn up plans to set up sewage treatment plants and lay sewage pipelines in every town in the next five years.
The Chief Minister, who took the guard of honour and witnessed the march past at the parade, said the government would buy 500 motorcycles for the police to improve its response time.
Mr. Khattar spelt out an ambitious programme for expanding and improving the road network in the State. He said the government had planned to widen and strengthen the roads connecting villages and districts. All main roads connecting district headquarters would be widened to four lanes or made 10-metre wide.
A survey of the proposed 200-km Bawana-Sonipat-Panipat-Uchana-Indri-Yamunanagar expressway along the Western Yamuna canal would be carried out. Besides, widening of National Highway 73, between Yamunanagar and Panchkula, to four lanes would start soon as tenders had been floated. For easing the financial burden on the people, Mr. Khattar said six toll barriers had been discontinued.
The government, he said, had planned to extend the Metro link from Faridabad to Ballabhgarh and from Faridabad to Gurgaon. For bringing about qualitative changes in education,
Mr. Khattar said quality, research and innovation would be promoted in educational institutions and e-libraries set up.
At a more basic level, he said desks would be provided in all schools by 2016 and toilets would be constructed under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Chief Minister said the government had adopted the principle of “minimum government, maximum governance.” He said social security pensions had been raised from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,200 a month and would go up by Rs. 200 every year for the next five years.
He said the Chief Minister’s web portal and CM window had been launched to ensure transparency and accountability and an online registry had been started in eight tehsils to make the system of land record registration more transparent.
