The Haryana Government has constituted a “Mitti Kala Board” to promote the traditional art of hand-crafted earthenware, pottery and artefacts in the State, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced here on Thursday.
The Board will be an autonomous body with a tenure of two years initially which might be extended from time to time. It will also have a perpetual seal.
Artists involved in manufacture of earthenware, pottery and artefacts will be encouraged and promoted in a big way. Skill development facilities in manufacture of earthenware, pottery and artefacts will be set up by engaging artists of repute across the country.
The Board will also organise awareness campaigns for promotion of items made for large-scale adoption and put in place a marketing network for sale through outlets. Besides taking initiative in development of a new range of products, it would also organise exhibitions and institute awards for outstanding artists. The Board will consist of five members including a Chairman, two official members including Member-Secretary and two non-official members appointed by the government from time to time.
