The Haryana Cabinet on Wednesday accorded approval to provide 5.52 acres of land free of cost to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Andhra Pradesh for construction of Lord Venkteswara (Balaji) temple at Kurukshetra.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda later told media persons that the land will be given on 99 years lease in the east-south corner of the ancient Brahmsarover. The TTD would plan and take up the construction which would commence within the next three to four months and complete the project in three years.
The temple would be an exact replica of the existing one at Tirumala. The TTD would also assist Kurukshetra Development Board in further development of Jyotisar, the birth place of Gita and other holy places, he added.
The Cabinet also decided to appoint noted hockey player Surinder Kaur and mountaineer Mamta Sodha as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) under the sports quota. It also decided to appoint constable Geeta as Sub-Inspector under sports quota.
Ms. Mamta Sodha, who hails from district Kaithal, had recently scaled Mount Everest and brought laurels to the State and the country.
The Cabinet also decided to maintain VAT rate at four per cent on all types of liquor when sold in the State for the first time for consumption as per Excise Policy for the years 2009-10 and 2010-11.
It also approved to promulgate an ordinance to extend by another six months the period for conducting first elections to the Municipal Corporation, Gurgaon. The period for conducting the first election has now been extended to December 2, 2010.
