Haryana govt. gets tough with web-based taxi service providers

December 12, 2014 08:03 pm | Updated 08:46 pm IST - CHANDIGARH:

In the wake of the rape in an Uber cab in Delhi, the Haryana Government has issued directions to secretaries of all its Regional Transport Authorities to not let any unauthorised operations by web-based taxi service providers in the State. It has also asked all radio-cab operators in Delhi NCR to get antecedents of their drivers verified properly by the Haryana Police.

The Haryana Transport Commissioner has directed the secretaries of RTA to also advise people against hiring any transport service provided by such companies until they have obtained the necessary licence or permission from the State governments or Union Territory administrations.

The Commissioner said communication was issued after a letter was received from the Ministry of Home Affairs directing States to stop all such transport services.

The Haryana Government has also clarified that it had formulated a Radio Cab Scheme in 2007 for the grant of contract carriage permits to the operators in

the areas lying within 50 km on all sides of the district headquarters of Gurgaon, Faridabad and Panchkula.

Pointing out that only seven permits had been granted in Gurgaon district, the Commissioner said out of these three have not been renewed. The four

companies whose permits are valid are: M/s Sonam Rent A Car, Sushant

Lok PH-I, Gurgaon (30 permits); M/s Surya Infracon Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon (100 permits); M/s Quick Cabs Pvt. Ltd, Gurgaon (20 permits); and M/s Apra Cabs India Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon (125).

No permits have been granted in Faridabad and Panchkula districts, the Commissioner said.

The RTA Secretaries have also been told to ensure that the companies which have valid permits get the antecedents of the drivers employed by them verified properly by the Haryana Police.
