A hardcore Maoist couple who were allegedly involved the 2008 attack on the police armoury in Nayagarh, surrendered before the police here on Sunday.

The Maoists, Anirudh Behera and his wife Rajalaxmi Biswal, surrendered before Puri Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar, saying they decided to leave the outfit because of harassment by higher-ups in the rebel hierarchy.

Both admitted that they were involved in several offences, including the attack on police establishments and the looting loot of the armoury in Nayagarh in 2008, and worked in close association with top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, police sources said.
