Hans Raj College here was closed on Wednesday after a visually-impaired student hailing from Agra was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hostel room in the campus.

The body of Mukesh Kumar (22), a second year B.A. Hindi Honours student, was found at around 7:30 pm Tuesday evening in Room 143 in the college hostel.

His body was found hanging in the room but his hands were found tied in the front, a senior police official said.

Investigators said they were yet to ascertain the cause of the death. Kumar hails from Rudra village in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district. “We are not sure whether it is a case of suicide or murder. It appears to be a case of murder. We are investigating the matter,” the official said.

College authorities have also called a meeting of the hostel committee to look into the matter.

Police are questioning Kumar’s classmates to ascertain the circumstances which led to his death. Kumar’s family members arrived in the capital early Wednesday morning.
